Grenadier football tryouts start Saturday

Kingston, ON -- Prospects for the Grenadiers Football Club hit the turf for the first day of tryout camp this Saturday, Feb. 25 at noon at the indoor spots dome, Royal Military College.

With just over two months until the first coin flip of the season athletes aged 12 to 19 will demonstrate their skills to secure a spot on the Grenadiers senior varsity, junior or reestablished bantam team.

“The tryout camp is designed to allow athletes to showcase their skills and learn team systems in the process,” said Alexandra Reyes-Walsh, executive director of the Grenadiers.

Cost of the tryout camp is $250 ($125 for bantam players born 2003-04). For the complete schedule or to register, visit www.GMen.ca

The Grenadiers season kicks-off on May 6 and 7 in Hamilton. Home games will be played at Queen’s Richardson Stadium.

COACHING STAFF

Mark McGee returns as head coach of the senior varsity team, Dales Sands will lead the junior team and Peter Brannen will introduce the GMen systems to bantam players.

“We are excited to add many high profile coaches to our team staff this season, including 2014 Grey Cup champion Billy Peach,” added Reyes-Walsh. Peach, the former Frontenac Falcon, and offensive linemen for Jacksonville University (NCAA) and CFL Calgary Stampeders has returned home to Kingston to develop his game off the field and settle his roots back where it all began. About the Grenadiers:

The Limestone District Grenadiers Football Club offers AAA summer football at the junior and senior varsity level. Athletes (aged 15-19) travel to Kingston from Trenton to Brockville to play for the Grenadiers. Teams travel and host teams within the Ontario Provincial Football League (OPFL).
